Selston has yet again missed out on millions of pounds in funding. The Ashfield Independent led District Council has not even bothered to bid for this once in a generation pot of Government money. Instead, a bid has gone in for Hucknall. Other councils have put bids in for more than one area but not the Ashfield Independent Council.
I wrote to Ashfeld District Council to ask why Selston has been hung out to dry. It is incredulous that they didn't even apply for the multi-million Leveling Up Fund for Selston. Despite Hucknall already receiving new leisure facilities and upgrades to Titchfield Park, ADC stated that Hucknall was the priority and would benefit Ashfield more. Selston is in dire need of investment; the roads are in a poor state, the bus services are inadequate, and there is a significant lack of any leisure facilities. I want Selston back on the map, this money could have seen the town's infrastructure secure massive upgrades. However, it is clear that the Ashfield Independents are not interested and refuse any opportunity of a cash injection here. Perhaps equally as worrying, when reading their response, the Council doesn't appear to know they can make more than one bid! This is not good enough and I have written to the Government about the situation.
