As you may know, every Friday I am out and about in constituency meeting local residents, schools, businesses and more. It is very easy to be sucked in to the 'Westminster bubble', but being out and about speaking to the good people of Ashfield & Eastwood keeps me on the straight and narrow, and keeps me in the loop with how people are feeling on the ground.
This Friday I had the pleasure of receiving a 'Shine Award' from Academy Transformation Trust Further Education college in Sutton, for my work helping deliver food parcels and for securing over £70 million for the Sutton Area. It's nice to know that hard work in London is being appreciated here in Ashfield!
I then met with Inspector Mark Dickson of Nottinghamshire Police on patrol in Kirkby. Together we spoke with local traders about their concerns on the High Street. Part of my job as an MP is facilitating conversations between bodies like the Police and local residents or traders so that action can be taken. We're very lucky to have an effective, hard working policing team covering Ashfield.
I was also lucky enough to be invited to West Park School in Kirkby, where I met students to talk about school sports and the importance of staying healthy and keeping active.
If you see me out and about on a Friday in Ashfield & Eastwood, feel free to come and have a chat!
